Where do the workshops take place?
The workshops usually take place in Purbeck, but Mark is happy to run workshops in other parts of Dorset and this can be arranged when discussing the itinerary for the day.
With a focus on developing camera technique and compositional skills relevant to general landscape photography, this tailored location workshops consists of 8 to 10 hours of hands-on instruction based on your needs and goals.
Prior to the day, Mark will carry out a thorough needs analysis to identify your goals and design a programme to suit you. When you meet will depend on the time of year and length of day. In the winter months, you'll meet at dawn and shoot through till dusk and at other times of year, when the days are longer, you will be given the option of either meeting later in the day and continuing till dusk or splitting the workshop over two days, including a sunset shoot on the first day and a dawn shoot on the second.
Locations can be decided either by discussion with Mark or you can leave it entirely up to him.
Please note that accommodation is not included in the cost of this workshop. Click on the ‘Accommodation’ tab to see a list of recommendations. If you book one of these, Mark will collect you from your accommodation; otherwise, you'll meet on location.

Any level. Mark is experienced at teaching photographers of all abilities, from complete beginners to aspiring professionals.
An SLR or mirrorless interchangeable lens system, a range of focal lengths (ideally from wide-angle to medium telephoto), enough memory cards (or film!) for the day's shoot, tripod and whatever filters or other accessories you already have. If required, Mark can lend you a tripod and / or filters for the day, but please let him know in advance. Also bring suitable clothing and footwear for the locations and time of year.
If, a day or two beforehand, the forecast looks wet/poor, the day can be arranged for an alternative, mutually convenient date.
Mark will contact you to discuss your requirements, potential locations and so on. He will then send a draft itinerary, which you can discuss with him and amend if necessary. The balance will be requested 48 hours before the workshop (or if the weather forecast is especially bad, the workshop will be rearranged at this stage).
Contact Mark to discuss it. He may be able to change some existing arrangements to make room for your workshop. If you don't ask, you'll never know!

The image-making process does not finish when you press the shutter; good post-processing skills are vital for making the most of your images. On this workshop, you will receive up to 10 hours' instruction, starting with an early shoot, and after a few hours spent in the field, the rest of the workshop will take place in Mark's home studio, processing and printing selected images.
