Capture to Print

Available January to November

£375.00

For 1 participant

The image-making process does not finish when you press the shutter; good post-processing skills are vital for making the most of your images. On this workshop, you will receive up to 10 hours' instruction, starting with an early shoot, and after a few hours spent in the field, the rest of the workshop will take place in Mark's home studio, processing and printing selected images. Mark will show you the basics of Adobe Lightroom - the industry standard image-processing application - and hints and tips pitched to your level of experience, to help you make your images stand out from the crowd.

You will then be shown the fundamentals of printing, with a focus on achieving a true screen to print match. To finish the session, you will make three A3 prints of your favourite images to take home with you.

Please note that accommodation is not included in the cost of this workshop. Click on the ‘Accommodation’ tab to see a list of recommendations. If you book one of these, Mark will collect you from your accommodation; otherwise, you'll meet on location.

Where do the workshops take place?

The workshops take place at Mark's home studio in Swanage, Dorset. The day starts with a dawn shoot nearby, followed by a quick breakfast and then another couple of hours' photography. The rest of the day is then spent processing images and preparing them for print.

What level do I need to be?

Any level. Mark is experienced at teaching photographers of all abilities, from complete beginners to aspiring professionals.

What do I need to bring?

An SLR or mirrorless interchangeable lens system, a range of focal lengths (ideally from wide-angle to medium telephoto), enough memory cards (or film!) for the day's shoot, tripod and whatever filters or other accessories you already have. If required, Mark can lend you a tripod and / or filters for the day, but please let him know in advance. Also bring suitable clothing and footwear for the locations and time of year. You'll probably want to take notes during the processing and printing session, so bring a notebook and pen. Please also bring some raw files on a USB stick, so that in the event of bad weather during the dawn shoot, you have some images to work on.

What if the weather is bad on the day?

If, a day or two beforehand, the forecast looks wet/poor, the day can be arranged for an alternative, mutually convenient date.

What happens once I have booked and paid my deposit?

Mark will contact you to discuss your requirements, potential locations and so on. He will then send a draft itinerary, which you can discuss with him and amend if necessary. The balance will be requested 48 hours before the workshop (or if the weather forecast is especially bad, the workshop will be rearranged at this stage).

What if I can't find a suitable date in the list of available dates?

Contact Mark to discuss it. He may be able to change some existing arrangements to make room for your workshop. If you don't ask, you'll never know!
